Hate and Understanding in an Era of Polarization

April 2, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

The Center for Global Islamic Studies will be hosting an open discussion of hate and some of its consequences at the Bob Graham Center. Using the American Muslim population as a case study, panelists will discuss how misunderstandings of others can be exploited to spread fear, while deconstructing the history and industry of hate in America. Examples of coalition-building, which can help to improve understanding and overcome structural and societal barriers to an inclusive and pluralistic America, will also be considered.

This event, part of the Dr. Sayeed and Atiya Ahmed Islamic Lecture Series, will feature panelists:

  • Meira Neggaz, ISPU’s Executive Director
  • Alejandro Beutel, ISPU Scholar and Sr. Research Analyst at the Southern Poverty Law Center
