Listen to Aasif Discuss Comedy's Role in Building Understanding

Potentially more important to the improvement of their condition in the country than political engagement, American Muslims need to develop cultural authority — the attainment of a position of respect and authenticity as equal, contributing members of society. This may be achieved by acting as culture producers in the arts, entertainment, and even the national vocabulary, so that the public has a familiarity and regard for American Muslims — a demographic that spans every conceivable ethnic, racial and social group in America. In fact, cultural production will show that the American Muslim community is a cross-section of America.

Featuring a keynote address by Aasif Mandvi of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and HBO's The Brink.
