A-mer-i-can Mus-lim (Muzz-lim,) noun, adjective
  • Threat to American security
  • Unpatriotic and more loyal to Muslim countries
  • Sympathetic to radicalism

Don't let this be the only definition of American Muslims.

Research shows that most American Muslims are civically engaged, assimilated, and philanthropic, and that they reject extremism and have built beneficial relationships with law enforcement. Many American Muslims say that the US is the best place in the world to be a Muslim. Yet, the community has often been defined by a few but powerful voices as a threat, unpatriotic and sympathetic to radicalism.

– George Washington

“Stealth jihadis use political, cultural, societal, religious, intellectual tools; violent jihadis use violence. But in fact they’re both engaged in jihad and they’re both seeking to impose the same end state which is to replace Western civilization with a [radical]imposition of Sharia.”

– Newt Gingrich

“Study data also shows that Muslim Americans are not interested in imposing these beliefs and traditions on non-Muslims,which they regard as a private matter relating to religious duty or (equally common) an affirmation of cultural identity. None of the respondents believed that non-Muslims should be adopting Islamic practices

– ISPU Fellow Julie MacFarlane

It is absolutely antithetical, sharia is, to our constitution and the pursuit of it is incompatible with the constitutions’ Article 6...it is an impermissible act of sedition which has to be prosecuted under our prosecution.

– Frank Gaffney

– ISPU Legal Fellow Asifa Quraishi

It is people who are in mainstream Islam, leaders of mosques, leaders of Muslim organizations who do not come forward and denounce, officially denounce, officially cooperate with the police against those extremists and terrorists.

– Congressman Peter King

The charge that Muslims do not condemn terrorism has been made repeatedly, despite that many Muslim leaders and organizations have consistently denounced acts of terrorism.

– ISPU Board of Advisors Member John Esposito

The way to deal with these issues or non-issues is to simply put out research rather than be involved in a tit for tat

– ISPU Board of Advisors Member Akbar Ahmed
