Wajahat Ali keynote highlights:
To
celebrate a decade of conducting objective research and offering
expert policy analysis, the Institute for Social Policy and
Understanding will hold a 10th Anniversary Gala, "Engaging American
Muslims: the 2012 Election and Beyond" featuring keynote speaker
Wajahat Ali.
In
the lead up to November's presidential election, ISPU will be
exploring several issues related to American Muslims as an important
constituency. Following ISPU's successful "Engaging American Muslims"
report combining a decades worth of data on the Muslim community's
civic and political engagement, ISPU will welcome Wajahat Ali, a key
thought leader in the community. Wajahat Ali is a playwright,
journalist, attorney, humorist and consultant., and the lead author of "Fear Inc.: Roots of the Islamophobia Network". He speaks and writes frequently on issues such as Islamophobia and American Muslim engagement.

Keynote Speaker: Wajahat Ali
Wajahat
Ali is a playwright, journalist, attorney, humorist and consultant.
His award-winning play, “The Domestic Crusaders” was published by
McSweeney’s in January 2011.
In
2008, he was honored as an “An Influential Muslim American Artist” by
the State Department. In 2009, he was honored as a “Muslim Leader of
Tomorrow” for his journalism work and invited to participate in the
“Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow” conference in Doha, Qatar. The same year,
he was the recipient of Muslim Public Affairs Council’s prestigious
“Emerging Muslim American Artist” recognition and cited as a Young
Muslim American Leader by The Center for American Progress.
He
is the lead author and researcher of the investigative report, “Fear
Inc., The Roots of Islamophobia Network in America” produced by the
Center for American Progress.He is a frequent contributor to the
Washington Post, The Guardian, Salon, Slate, Wall Street Journal,
CNN.com, Huffington Post, McSweeney’s, and Counterpunch.
He
is currently writing a pilot for HBO with author Dave Eggers and has
co-edited the anthology “I Speak For Myself: 45 American Men on Being
Muslim”, published in 2012.
